UNIFORM POLICY
The East New York Arts and Civics High School is among the many DOE schools that have implemented a uniform policy. To promote a positive learning environment, students are expected to dress professionally. Proper attire is essential for safety and helps maintain focus on education. We encourage all parents and guardians to remind students about appropriate dress guidelines while on campus. The school uniform is designed to foster a sense of pride and unity within our community. Students must wear the full uniform to attend classes and should remain in it throughout the day.
The uniform consists of the following items:
1 The East New York Arts and Civics High School logo short and long-sleeved shirts, sweatpants, hoodies, pullovers, and crew necks.
2 Regular shoes, or sneakers in any color and design (Slides and crocs are not permitted).
Please note the following guidelines:
Jean jackets and coats are permitted over a visible uniform shirt.
The East New York Arts and Civics shirts must be visible beneath a zip-up hoodie if it is unzipped.
Skirts, dresses, and shorts should be at least a fingertip length.
Pants must fit at the waist—no oversized or sagging pants are allowed, and undergarments must not be visible.
The following items are not permitted:
Jeans, skin-tight stretchy pants, leggings, jeggings, biker shorts, joggers, or non-PE sweatpants.
Hats or headgear (including hoods) unless for religious reasons.
Clothing that leaves the torso, undergarments, or private areas exposed, including see-through garments.
Clothing with references to drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, racism, or gang affiliation.
Flip-flops, open-toe shoes, or flimsy sandals.
Sunglasses worn indoors.
Consequences & enforcement
! Please be aware that the dress code will apply during special events; however, students may be permitted to wear different items depending on the day's activities, as approved by the administration.
! Consequences for failing to adhere to the dress code include lunch detention, exclusion from dress-down days, and other school events. Students will be expected to adjust their clothing as needed to comply with the dress code (e.g., turning a shirt inside out or borrowing temporary clothing until the end of the school day)
